| Born Robert Allen Zimmerman, Bob Dylan gathered a host of nicknames, most famously Blond Boy Grunt, Jack Frost, Elson Gunn, Jack Fate, Sergie Petrov, Boo Wilbury, and others. A major figure in America’s folk, rock, folk rock, country and blues, he has been in the music industry for over five decades. Much of his work dates from the ‘60s when he wrote songs such as “The Times They Are a-Changin” that became the civil movement’s anthem anti war slogan. His latest release, the “Modern Times” album topped the charts for weeks, making him the oldest person to have a chart buster.
Bob Dylan’s music initially focused on philosophy, politics and social commentary that appealed to the counterculture widely present at the time. He held to his steadfast belief in American folk and country, widening his musical styles to country and rock and roll. In England, his music captured the hearts of Jazz lovers and Irish folk music as he incorporated them all in his genre. Bob Dylan has toured and performed in his “Never Ending Tour” to numerous countries and with even more numerous artists including Neil Young, Tom Petty, The Band, U2, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Jack White and many others.
Bob Dylan is generally regarded as a better songwriter, although his performances have been amazing. His songs have won him Academy Awards, Grammy Awards and Golden Globe Awards and received the ultimate crowing by being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
